Audi AG has formally opened its new €1.3 billion ($1.5 billion) factory in Puebla, Mexico, to make next-generation Q5 midsize crossover vehicles. The facility will be Audi’s sole source for the model.
The plant has capacity to make 150,000 vehicles per year. Audi confirms earlier reports that the facility also is being prepared to build an all-electric variant of the Q5.
The complex includes an adjacent supplier park with seven initial tenants. Audi says more than 70% of the content of vehicles it builds in Puebla will come from within the NAFTA region, including 100 supplier facilities in Mexico.
