AT&T Inc. says it has signed 2 million customers in the U.S. for its connected-car services, including 500,000 added in July-September.

The company has been promoting its AT&T Drive connected-car platform to carmakers since January. The system combines AT&T's own high-speed wireless system with a pallet of billing, networking and voice recognition capabilities.

AT&T predicts home monitoring and Internet-connected cars could become a $1 billion market. Such systems so far are being bundled into high-end cars but are expected to soon spread to lower-priced models.
