Aston Martin Holdings Ltd. has released the first official images of its upcoming DBX crossover vehicle.

Described as a “near-production” model, the camouflaged prototype shows several changes from the 2015 DBX concept vehicle. These include a taller stance and a five-door body style in place of the three-door concept. The concept’s coupe-like roofline is retained.

The front-end mirrors Aston Martin's latest design language with a wide grille mounted low on the fascia, flanked by thin, elongated headlights.

The carmaker plans to test the DBX in challenging weather and road conditions, ranging from the Arctic and deserts in the Middle East to Germany’s famed Nurburgring circuit and high-speed autobahns.

Powertrain options are expected to include Aston Martin’s V-12 engine and a Mercedes-Benz-sourced 4.0-liter V-8—and possibly a hybrid variant. All-wheel-drive will be standard.

Aston Martin will manufacture the DBX at its new factory in St. Athan, England. The vehicle is due to bow late next year with a base price of about $200,000.
