Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. says its 800-hp Vulcan race car will retail for 1.8 million ($2.8 million).

The car, which is legal only for track use, will be publicly unveiled next Tuesday ahead of the Geneva auto show. Aston Martin plans to build only 24 of the mid-engine two-seaters. The car's styling previews the look of the company's next-generation sports cars, according to the company.

Aston Martin Vulcan

Aston Martin will release performance and technical data when the Vulcan makes its track debut later this year.

The car features a carbon-fiber monocoque and body panels built by the carmaker's long-time partner, Multimatic Inc. The car's 7.0-liter, naturally aspirated V-12 engine delivers power to the rear wheels through an Xtrac 6-speed sequential gearbox. The company says the Vulcan's power-to-weight ratio will surpass that of GTE cars in the FIA's World Endurance Championship.

Other equipment includes Brembo racing brake calipers, carbon ceramic discs (380 mm in front and 360 mm in back), a track-derived pushrod suspension and adjustable roll bars, shocks and antilock braking system.

Part of the Vulcan purchase price will be special track-day events in 2016 that enable owners to get used to the performance of their car by starting out with track time in the company's V12 Vantage S and One-77 supercars and Vantage GT4 race car. Buyers also may opt for seat time in a high-performance virtual simulator.
