The Mexican automaker group AMIA says it has reached a preliminary agreement with ADEFA, its Argentine counterpart, to end an auto free trade feud between the two countries.

AMIA, which didn't provide details of its accord with ADEFA, says the two groups will urge their respective governments to open official talks to end the dispute.

In June Argentina imposed a three-year suspension of its auto pact with Mexico and a 35% tariff on vehicles from that country. Mexico retaliated by halting duty preferences on autos made in Argentina.

Buenos Aires said it wanted an accord similar to Mexico's agreement in March to limit its exports of autos and parts to Brazil.
