April Sales in Russia Climb 18%

April deliveries in Russia of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles grew 18% to 152,400 units as the market continues to rebound.

Sales were led by Lada (+7% to 30,700 units), Kia (+22% to 19,600) and Hyundai (+16% to 15,900). Deliveries by Renault, the market’s fourth-largest brand, advanced 3% to 12,000 vehicles.

AEB says the sales boom is being generated by new products, competitive prices and a rush from consumers to buy before a weaker ruble triggers price hikes. The trade group predicts slower growth in the long term.
