Apple Inc. has hired the software engineer who designed satellite navigation systems for Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, Bloomberg News reports.

Sinisa Durekovic joined Apple last October, according to the news service. He previously was chief engineer for navigation at Harman International Industries Inc. Bloomberg says both companies and Durekovic have declined to comment on his move to California or reveal his job function at Apple.

Bloomberg notes that Apple has been intent on improving its own Maps navigation app for smartphones. The company’s CarPlay—which links iPhone apps, including Maps, to a car’s entertainment system—is being offered by 40 car brands.
