The average U.S. price of gasoline climbed to $3.59 per gallon on Monday, up six cents from a week ago, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report. Pump prices have jumped 28 cents in the past month.
Bloomberg News says speculators have boosted gasoline futures, which closed near a 10-month high of $3.03 per gallon on the New York Mercantile Exchange on Monday.
The U.S. Energy Information Administration predicts U.S. consumption of refined petroleum products will increase to 18.71 barrels per day this year from 18.65 bpd in 2012.
