American Axle to Open Plant in Spain

American Axle & Manufacturing Inc. (AAM) plans to open a manufacturing plant in Barcelona early next year.

The 160,000-sq-ft facility consolidates two smaller AAM plants in the area. At full capacity the plant will employ 170 people.

AAM says the larger facility will help it meet growing demand for products that help reduce noise and vibrations from downsized engines. The plant will produce damped gears, bonded dampers and isolation pulleys. Customers include Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford, Fiat Chrysler, PSA, Porsche and Renault.
