American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. reports its net income jumped to $51 million in the January-March period of 2012 from $38 million in the same period of last year.

Revenue jumped 16% year over year to $752 million in the first quarter. The company's content per vehicle was unchanged at $1,480 compared.

AAM's operating profit rose to $77 million from $59 million. Operating margin expanded to 10.3% from 9.1% a year earlier.
