Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV says high-output engines for its Alfa Romeo brand will be produced at the Alfa factory in Termoli, Italy.

FCA announced it will spend more than €500 million to expand annual capacity at the Termoli facility by 200,000 engines.

The company did not offer details about the powerplants. But supplier sources told Automotive News Europe last year the engines will include a family of high-performance 4-cylinder diesel and gasoline engines.

Termoli also will make a twin-turbo V-6 powerplant with output as great as 480 hp. The engine will be a modified version of the 3.0-liter engine Ferrari supplies for FCA's Maserati Quattroporte and Ghibi performance sedans, according to ANE's sources.
