FCA Italy SpA's Alfa Romeo unit plans to unveil an SUV/crossover next year, sources tell Bloomberg News.

They say the new model will follow a new midsize Alfa sedan due in June. Both rear-drive vehicles are expected to share the same platform and be produced at FCA's factory at Cassino.

The SUV will be about the size of an Audi Q5 or BMW X3 and include a V-6 diesel option, according to Bloomberg. The sedan will be unveiled this summer to mark Alfa's 105th anniversary.

Both models are part of FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne's latest five-year plan to revive Alfa. His aim is to boost the brand's annual global sales to 500,000 from about 102,000 in 2013. The €5 billion turnaround plan includes introducing seven new vehicles to Alfa's meager lineup by 2018.
