Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV’s Alfa Romeo unit delivered two customized versions of its Giulia Quadrifoglio sedan to Italy’s Carabinieri military police in Rome and Milan to be used for medical emergencies and transporting politicians and foreign dignitaries.
Power will come from a Ferrari-derived 2.9-liter V-6 engine that produces 505 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. The powerplant can propel the Carabinieri-spec Quadrifoglios from zero to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 191 mph.
The vehicles initially will be used to transport body organs and blood to hospitals for emergency procedures. Special features include an on-board defibrillator, portable cooling units and an Odin magnetic resonance imaging device.
Hundreds of additional Carabinieri Quadrifoglios are expected to be delivered throughout Italy in coming years.
