Alcoa Inc. says it will spend $275 million to increase sheet aluminum capacity by an undisclosed amount at its rolling mill in Alcoa, Tenn., by 2015.
The upgrade will add capacity to make automotive sheet and convert some of the mill's existing can sheet capacity to automotive products. Alcoa says most of the additional output will be used to meet existing long-term supply agreements.
CEO Klaus Kleinfeld says the company expects automotive demand for sheet aluminum to quadruple by 2015 and reach 10 times current levels by 2025.
