Honda Motor Co.’s Acura unit has released a rendering of the 2017 MDX crossover vehicle, which will be publicly unveiled late next month at the New York auto show.
The image shows more aggressive styling, although not quite as bold as the Acura Precision concept model introduced at last month’s Detroit auto show. Acura says it has redesigned and reengineered the three-row MDX, but the vehicle will still ride on the third-generation platform introduced in 2014.
The new model also will feature “advanced new powertrain technology,” the carmaker says without providing any details. The current MDX is powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 engine and 9-speed automatic transmission. Acura promises the next model will include new luxury and convenience features.
The 2017 MDX was designed by Acura’s Torrance, Calif., design studio. Production will be launched early next year at the company’s plant in Lincoln, Ala.
