Passenger car sales in the European Union will grow 5% to 14.4 million units this year, more than double the pace predicted in January, according to ACEA.
The more bullish forecast by the Brussels-based association compares with 9.3% sales growth in 2015. ACEA President Dieter Zetsche notes that sales in the EU remain well below their pre-crisis level of 15.5 million units.
Separately, trade groups report big sales gains in May in Europe’s largest markets. They say extra selling days helped hike deliveries last month by 12% in Germany, 22% in France, 27% in Italy and 21% in Spain.
