A Breath of Fresh Air for Audi Small Cars

Next month Audi AG will begin equipping all its compact vehicles worldwide with a new air filter that is designed to combat pollutants and potential allergens.
Two versions of the three-layer filter will be available. In one, the anti-allergen outer layer will use a plant-derived bioactive polyphenol substance. The other will employ a modified protein.
The other two layers include a traditional microfiber particle filter and an activated carbon layer. The former removes particulates and the latter traps gases.
The three-layer design optimizes separation performance and air throughput over the life of the filter, according to the carmaker. It says the effectiveness of the filters was verified by two independent testing agencies.
The new filters will be standard on Audi’s A1, A3, Q3 and TT models, as well as on the new Q2 compact crossover (pictured) that launches later this year. Audi says dealers also can retrofit current vehicles with the improved filter.
