Thousands of taxi drivers are expected to block roads into Paris on Monday to protest a court's refusal to ban Uber Technologies Inc. from offering its smartphone-based taxi service in the city.
The drivers object to the San Francisco-based company's lowest-cost service, uberPOP. The car share scheme uses nonprofessional drivers who drive their own cars to transport customers. Taxi operators argue that Uber must comply with the same regulations that apply to conventional taxi fleets.
Uber faces dozens of similar challenges, including recent temporary bans in Brussels, the Netherlands and Spain.
