Frank DeSilva of Resin Tech:

PFAS Remediation Technologies

Most metal finishers have received, and should have completed, the EPA PFAS Survey. By now most finishers have done some testing which probably determined some level of PFAS is in their wastewater discharge, even though they use no PFAS containing chemistries. The Survey data will be used to establish WW discharge limits to which we all will be expected to adhere. Frank will give us a regulatory status update as well as offering various current technology compliance alternatives for potentially stringent Wastewater Discharge Limits facing the metal finishing community.

Mark Schario, CEF of Columbia Chemical:

Preparing for the Industry Shift in Decorative Trivalent Plating: Performance and Operational Review of Chloride vs. Sulfate

As the focus regarding the use of hexavalent chromium expands, the pressure to make the switch to decorative trivalent chromium plating increases. Several factors have aligned to jumpstart a rapid industry movement in the switch from decorative hexavalent to trivalent plating. Across the industry, process and color standards are being adapted, RFQ’s are circulating, and OEMs need shops who are equipped and ready. Applicators facing the decision-making process need to be prepared. Significant conversations are taking place globally and throughout the automotive industry on the use of sulfate vs. chloride and this presentation will examine the performance comparison of the two systems, review the extensive field test study outlining color stability and corrosion testing results, examine new heat treatment data, and provide an operational and cost comparison of the systems to aid in decision making.

David Calnan of CCI Chemical:

Benefits of Simple Oxidation of a Waste Stream Prior to Metals Reduction/Precipitation

This presentation will outline the reasons for oxidizing a metal bearing waste stream prior to precipitation/reduction and coagulation. David will describe non-proprietary methods for implementing an oxidative process and the resulting benefits.
