Products Finishing Cover Photo Shows Espos Coating Columbia University Formula SAE Car
Formula SAE is a collegiate student design competition organized by SAE International.
The new issue of Products Finishing for January 2015 shows Espo's Powder Coating putting a finishing touch on a Formula SAE car owned by Columbia University's Knickerbocker Motorsport.
Formula SAE is a collegiate student design competition organized by SAE International. The concept behind Formula SAE Student Design is that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a design team to develop a small Formula-style race car. The prototype race car is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item. The target marketing group for the race car is the non-professional weekend autocross racer.
Each college team designs, builds and tests a prototype based on a series of rules whose purpose is both to ensure onsite event operations and promote clever problem solving.
Vinod Nimmagadda from Columbia University's Formula SAE program saw the cover shot of Tom Esposito powder coating the frame.
"This makes me immensly proud," he said.

Shifting Landscape of Technology Is a Never-Ending Education
Brent Donaldson, Senior Editor, Modern Machine Shop and Additive Manufacturing Magazine discusses how the shifting landscape of technology that all of Gardner’s writers and editors cover is a never-ending education. As I continue writing and reporting for AM and MMS, it’s easy to imagine how these technologies’ interdependency will continue to grow. It also seems clear that this kind of reporting — the kind that requires editors to experience and share new manufacturing technologies and strategies — is the kind of reporting that only Gardner can produce with any depth. I’m grateful to be part of it.
