Watch Meets Mercedes

The Pebble watch was funded by a Kickstarter campaign. Funny thing: watches are an item that seem to be going the way of fountain pens, all the more so as even toddlers, it seems, are rolling around with smartphones that provide the time. Still, Pebble was remarkably successful in its funding program, as it had a goal of $100,000 and raised $10,266,805 from 68,929 backers.

Why, you might be wondering, am I writing about a new take on the tried-and-true digital watch?

Well, it’s because Mercedes-Benz has established a strategic partnership with Pebble Technology.

Apparently, once you have paired your Merc—assuming that you have the Mercedes Digital DriveStyle app updated—with your Pebble watch, you can use it for a variety of things. Out of your car, you can check fuel level, door-lock status, and even location. In your car, you can use it to be advised of things like accidents and to activate Siri (of course, once Apple comes out with its rumored watch, there may be some issue with this).

Seriously: if you’re using your watch to check on your car, you probably have too much time on your hands.
