Toyota: The Carrion Circle

While going a Page-A-Day calendar from last year, one with comparatively idiotic things that have been said or written*, we spotted the following from November 22, which is claimed to be “actual courtroom testimony”:

Q: Oh, okay. So you had a conversation with Mr. Smith about the SeaTower at some point. . .

A: Yes.

Q: Prior to his death?

Which correlates with a story that we saw in today’s Los Angeles Times about a meeting held yesterday in San Diego: approximately 150 lawyers met for an all-day session on the subject of suing Toyota.

According to the story:

“’We’ve got a wonderful opportunity to fight a multifront war,’ said W. Mark Lanier of the Lanier law firm of Houston, flashing on a screen a map suggesting the Allies’ assault on Nazi Germany during World War II.”

Which makes us think that the exchange recounted above really might be rather clever.

And as for why the vultures—er, lawyers—are flocking:

“How much money is involved?

“’A hell of a lot,’ said San Diego lawyer Kerry Steigerwalt, whose firm already has Toyota clients.”

Yes, it is all about the money.
