This was the first month-over-month increase in the monetary base since February 2016. The annual rate of change in the monetary base, now -4.6 percent, contracted for the 17th consecutive month. But, the annual rate of contraction decelerated for the fifth month in a row, putting the rate of contraction at its slowest since October 2016.
