This is something that you ordinarily don’t have the opportunity to see, which is inside the Katzkin Leather factory. As you can see, there is a range of threads used for stitching the leather that the company provides to a wide range of OEMs for production vehicles, as well as specialty vehicles.
According to Tim Clyde, CEO of Katzkin, “We have patterns for more than 3,000 vehicles and we are utilizing state-of-the-art laser technology to complement our artisan craftsmanship.
The company has been producing leather packages for automotive interiors for 30 years.
The company can create special interiors for vehicles in 48 hours or less.
At SEMA this week there are nearly 100 project cars than include interiors from Katzkin. What’s more, the company, at its own stand, is doing a live demonstration of transforming the interior of the Bass Pro Marketing Toyota Tundra.
Clyde said, “While the outside of your vehicle can make a definitive statement, it’s the interior you are living in, no matter what car you drive, and a customized leather interior offers owners a chance to make a personal statement and generate excitement for your car, truck or SUV.”
One thing seems a bit off in its messaging, however.
While it is a fact that most interior leather is sourced from cows, outside of PETA members, there probably aren’t a whole lot of people who think about that fact.
And if they do think about the source of that leather, chances are it is thought of as coming from an ugly cow, not a cute, cuddly one.
Which sort of makes this little guy in the back top right seem rather, well. . . .
