Given the fact that you are reading this on your phone, computer or tablet, and given that there is a seemingly endless array of things that you can be reading related to the auto industry on those devices at this very moment, you’re possibly unaware of the fact that AD+P actually publishes an ink-on-paper magazine, something that is becoming increasingly rare in this day and age.

(In the event that you’d actually like to get a free subscription to Automotive Design & Production, the Magazine, go here; let us point out, however, as it is a business-to-business controlled circulation magazine, there are certain qualifications that you must meet to get it.)

Anyway, we recently became aware of a publication out of the U.K., 5054. It is about “Motive Culture,” which includes “automotive culture.”

It is a fascinating compendium of things new and old.

It had been an ink-on-paper publication, but as Hilton Holloway, founder and editor of the publication writes in his note to the third, digital version of the magazine, “we just didn’t sell enough of the printed version to produce a third issue.”

So the third is digital and you can buy it here.

While we’re not wont to promote other publications, there is one reason why we think it is worth your consideration.

When we contacted Holloway and asked him about the meaning of the title “5054” he responded, “It was the serial number of the prototype Spitfire.” The British airplane developed in the mid-1930s.

Holloway added that he “thought it made a distinctive masthead”—it isn’t often you see four numbers instead of letters for the title of a publication—“and a good connection with engineering innovation.”

And let’s face it: we could all use more well-written pieces about engineering innovation.
