Volkswagen AG’s self-named brand has release a sketch of the Arteon, a coupelike five-door hatch that will replace the CC at the top of VW’s car lineup in Europe next summer.
The car was inspired by the Sport Coupe Concept GTE unveiled by VW at last year’s Geneva auto show. The production version will debut at the Geneva show in March. VW is considering whether to offer the new model, which will be positioned above the Passat sedan, in the U.S. in 2018.
VW says the Arteon will introduce a new “highly expressive, horizontally accentuated” exterior style that includes frameless windows, a fastback roofline, a top-hinged tailgate and prominent grille bars in front that extend into three-dimensional headlamp assemblies.
The Arteon will be produced at the VW factory in Emden, Germany, that currently makes the CC. Media reports speculate the car will be base-priced at about €33,000 ($35,000).
