The milestone model, a plug-in hybrid Golf GTE hatchback, rolled off the line this week at VW’s main plant in Wolfsburg, Germany.
The production total includes 34 million Golfs, nearly 21.5 million Beetles, 20 million Passats, 19.5 million Jettas and nearly 17 million Polo hatchbacks.
VW has built vehicles in more than 50 facilities in 14 countries over the years. The Wolfsburg plant alone has accounted for more than 44 million vehicles since series production started there with the Type 1 (Beetle) hatchback in 1945.
