The carmaker will end its F3 program, which uses specialized open-wheel cars, following the completion of the current season that ends in October. VW has been involved in the series for more than 30 years.
As part of the shift, VW Motorsports will participate in the new Americas Rallycross (ARX) Championship, which will hold four events this year. Subaru also plans to race in the series.
Andretti Autosport’s Scott Speed and Tanner Foust will drive for VW in the ARX series. But the company hasn’t said what cars it will use in the races. Speed and Foust currently are competing in GRC Supercar events with VW Beetles but the carmaker is dropping the iconic nameplate from its lineup this year.
