The car, which had been scheduled to bow publicly at the Frankfurt auto show in September, will be built at VW’s home plant in Wolfsburg, Germany. VW estimates it has sold 35 million Golfs since the first version debuted in 1974
The latest iteration will debut with extensive and interconnected electronic features that include smartphone lock/unlock, a fully digital cockpit with large touchscreen and both car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure communication. Other updates are LED headlamps and lane-keeping assist.
