VW to Launch 8th-Gen Golf in Third Quarter

Volkswagen AG has overcome software glitches with the eighth generation of its Golf five-door hatch and is expected to begin making the all-new model by September, Automotive News Europe says.

The car, which had been scheduled to bow publicly at the Frankfurt auto show in September, will be built at VW’s home plant in Wolfsburg, Germany. VW estimates it has sold 35 million Golfs since the first version debuted in 1974

The latest iteration will debut with extensive and interconnected electronic features that include smartphone lock/unlock, a fully digital cockpit with large touchscreen and both car-to-car and car-to-infrastructure communication. Other updates are LED headlamps and lane-keeping assist.
