VW Tech: A Dynamic Sign of the Future

Volkswagen AG is launching a new camera-based system that displays the latest road sign information in a vehicle’s cockpit.

Dubbed Dynamic Road Sign Display, the system compares images from forward-facing cameras with data from the vehicle’s navigation system and other vehicle information to ensure accuracy and to prevent false readings from dirty or damaged signs. In vehicles equipped with rain sensors, the system will display applicable “when wet” speed limits.

Information can be shown in the main instrument display, center console unit or a head-up display. The system initially will be available on select VW vehicles in the U.K.
