Sketches of Volkswagen AG’s seventh-generation Jetta compact sedan reveal a sleeker and sportier profile for the 2019 model.
The seventh-generation model, which will ride on VW’s modular MQB platform, will be publicly unveiled next month at the Detroit auto show. The new design is about one inch longer and wider than the outgoing model. Styling cues include a coupe-like roofline and curvier design than its boxy predecessor. The fascia, grille and headlights are reminiscent of VW’s larger Areton, which bowed earlier this year.
A sketch of the interior indicates a lowered dashboard with a digital instrument cluster and redesigned seats. Options will include ambient lighting and a high-end Beats Audio sound system.
Power is expected to come from a turbocharged 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine mated with either 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic transmission. A GLI derivative with a 2.0-liter turbo 4-banger also is said to be in the works.
