VW-SOVAC Venture to Assemble Cars in Algeria

Volkswagen AG has formed a joint venture in Relizane, Algeria, with sales partner SOVAC to assemble SEAT Skoda, VW brand cars and VW light-duty commercial vehicles. Production will begin next spring.
SOVAC Production SpA, in which VW holds a minority stake, aims to reach output of 100 vehicles per day at the 250-hectare (371-acre) manufacturing site. The new factory is located 220 km (137 miles) west of Algeria.
The venture will assemble the SEAT Ibiza supermini, Skoda Octavia five-door hatch , VW Golf five-door hatch and VW Caddy small panel van. SOVAC has imported most of VW Group brands in partnership with the carmaker since 2001.
