Volkswagen AG says it will launch a global recall involving 589,000 of its Caddy small delivery vans to replace faulty gas struts that support the tailgate. Nearly half the affected vans are in Germany.
The flaw affects vans made between late 2003 and early 2013. VW says a strut may become disconnected, allowing the vehicle's large roof-hinged tailgate to slam shut unexpectedly.
