Volkswagen AG is preparing to set new expansion goals because the company is already nearing the objectives it set for 2018, according to Bernd Osterloh, head of VW's works council.

The company declared in 2007 it aimed to become the world's largest automaker by selling 10 million vehicles worldwide by 2018. VW's volume last year reached 9.1 million vehicles.

Osterloh, who also sits on the VW supervisory board, tells reporters that the company's management is evaluating new targets for 2022. He adds that VW won't hit the 10 million-unit goal this year.
