CEO Martin Winterkorn tells Reuters that Volkswagen AG has no current plans for acquisitions but is "wide awake" to opportunities.
Winterkorn said last August that the company wouldn't be buying additional brands because it already was busy integrating the 12 car, truck and motorcycle marques it already has. VW completed the acquisition of Porsche, truckmaker MAN and Ducati motorcycle last year.
But Chairman Ferdinand Piech said last month that the company probably would add brands at some point. He continues to express interest in Fiat SpA's Alfa Romeo unit, which Fiat has emphatically said is not for sale.
