Volkswagen AG is expected relocate production of its Crafter van to Poznan, Poland, in mid-2016 when its current production agreement in Germany with Daimler AG expires, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reports.
Daimler currently assembles the Crafter with its own Sprinter van in Dusseldorf and Ludwigsfelde. VW's Poznan factory, which current makes Caddy and T5 small vans, has capacity to build 70,000 Crafters per year, according to the newspaper.
VW's supervisory board is expected to make the final decision by mid-March. The newspaper says VW favors production in Poland rather than Germany because of the country's lower labor costs.
