As expected, Volkswagen AG has hired Andreas Renschler to help integrate its Scania, MAN and in-house commercial truck operations.

Renschler quit as head of manufacturing and procurement of Daimler's Mercedes-Benz Cars unit in January after nine months in the position. He will begin his new job at VW on Feb. 1, 2015.

Renschler will join VW's management board with responsibility for commercial vehicles. He succeeds Leif Ostling, who will retire next year.

At Daimler, Renschler helped launch the company's U.S. factory in Alabama before being appointed to lead Daimler Truck. He had been considered a possible successor to CEO Dieter Zetsche.
