Volkswagen AG’s VW brand reports record unit sales for March (+5% to 584,700 units) and in the first quarter of 2018 (+6% to 1.53 million).
Last month the brand’s sales rose 3% to 190,000 units in Europe, 6% to 269,500 vehicles in China, 5% to 50,500 units in North America (including an 18% jump to 32,500 vehicles in the U.S.) and 7% to 41,000 units in South America.
VW attributes the upturn to strong demand for its redesigned Polo small hatchback and Virtus sedan variant and, in North America, its Tiguan Allspace and Atlas crossover vehicles.
March sales in Germany slipped 1% to 225,300 units from the same month last year. But VW reports big gains in France (+9%), Italy (+10%), and Sweden (+12%).
