Volkswagen AG verifies media reports last week that it will introduce a production version of its electric I.D. Buzz microbus concept.
The microbus will follow the debut of VW’s I.D. compact sedan, which was unveiled at the Paris auto show last autumn, in 2022. Other models within the I.D. family are likely. VW says the electric-only lineup will be marketed mainly in China, Europe and North America.
The production version of the Buzz will measure 4.9 meters (16.2 ft) long, 2 meters (6.5 ft) wide and 2 meters high. The vehicle will feature variable-configuration seating, connectivity and so-called level 3 self-driving capabilities.
VW says the Buzz will occupy a midsize footprint but provide the interior room of a large van, thanks to its under-floor battery pack, compact powertrain and relatively long wheelbase. A cargo variant also is being developed.
