The 2019 sedan will replace the aging CC in VW’s lineup this autumn. Pricing is expected to start at about $37,000.

The American variant is virtually identical to the European Arteon. Riding on VW’s MQB front-wheel-drive platform, the new car is longer, wider and taller than the CC.

Only one engine will be available at launch in the U.S., a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder mill that generates 268 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The engine will be mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission—a 7-speed dual-clutch unit is offered in Europe—with an adaptive suspension and optional all-wheel drive.

On the safety front, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitor and rear traffic alert are standard. Adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and a 360˚ camera are optional.

Interior goodies include a push-button starter, tri-zone climate controls and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone integration capabilities. Top-of-the-line variants add a digital cockpit cluster, panoramic sunroof, a massage function on the driver seat and a premium audio system.
