Volkswagen AG has named Xavier Chardon, its head of marketing for the VW brand in Europe, to become global marketing chief for the marque on Sept. 1.
Chardon will replace Simon Thomas, who held the job for nine months before quitting in June. Thomas tells Automotive News Europe he "awaits a date when I can leave the company."
Succeeding Chardon as head of VW brand marketing in Europe will be Wolf-Stefan Specht. Specht currently heads VW sales in India and the Far East.
Thomas also was head of marketing for VW Group. That role will be assumed by Christian Klingler, the company's board member in charge of sales and marketing, until a permanent replacement is selected.
Thomas joined VW in 2011 as head of brand operations in the U.K. He formerly directed European sales and marketing for Nissan Motor Co.
