Organizers of the World Car Awards have named the Volvo XC60 crossover vehicle as this year’s overall winner.

The XC60 (pictured) beat out 33 vehicles for the award. The other finalists were the Mazda CX-5 crossover and Range Rover Velar SUV.

Category winners include the Audi A8 (luxury car), BMW M5 (performance), Volkswagen Polo (urban) and Nissan Leaf (green car). The Velar won top honors for design.

Eligible vehicles must be available on at least two continents sometime during a 17-month period ending in May. The winners are selected by an international jury panel comprised of 82 automotive journalists from 24 countries.
