Zhejiang Geely Holding Group's Volvo Car unit expects to introduce the latest generation of its entry-level V40 hatchback in India in June.

Volvo has been selling sedan and wagon versions of the revamped V40 in Europe since mid-2012. The car, which will be equipped with a gasoline or diesel engine, aims to compete with the likes of the BMW X1 and Audi Q3 compact crossovers.

The Swedish brand aims to boost sales in India to 1,100 vehicles this year and 20,000 units by 2020 from just over 800 units last year. Currently Volvo imports such models as the S60 midsize and S80 large sedans and XC60 midsize and XC90 big crossover vehicles to India from its facilities in Sweden and Belgium.
