Geely Automobile Holding Co. and its Volvo Car affiliate will co-produce their latest small crossover vehicles in a factory under construction in Luqiao, located 200 miles south of Shanghai, the Financial Times reports.
FT says the Lugiao plant will mark the first time Chinese and foreign models are assembled on the same production line.
Geely’s new Lynk & Co. brand unveiled its upcoming crossover, the Lynk 01, two weeks ago. The vehicle is an iteration of Volvo’s upcoming XC40 crossover. The plant also appears likely to make Volvo’s next-generation 40-series small sedan. All three models will ride on Volvo’s compact modular architecture platform.
