Volvo Car Corp. has officially introduce the all-new XC90 crossover vehicle, its first all-new model under owner Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Ltd.

The seven-seater also is the first to ride on Volvo's new modular "scalable product architecture." Eventually the platform will carry all the company's main product lines.

Volvo will sell the first 1,927 XC90s commemorating the year the company began online beginning Sept. 3. The First Edition models, all painted black, will come with amber leather interior and special 21-inch wheels.

The redesigned XC90 features narrow headlamps divided by T-shaped running lights, a larger grille, cleaner lower fascia and a longer hood. Sharper character lines define the side panels. Buyers will be able to opt for wheel sizes as large as 22 inches.

The crossover offers an array of gasoline and diesel Drive-E turbocharged engines with power levels ranging from 190 hp to 320 hp. All are variants of the same 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine.

The top-end "T8" Twin Engine system couples a supercharged and turbocharged version of the 2.0-liter gasoline engine with an electric motor. Volvo says the combination delivers about 400 hp with carbon dioxide emissions of only about 60 g/km on the New European Driving Cycle.
