Volvo Car Corp., which expects to sell about 1,000 cars in India this year, says nearly tripling its dealer network in the country will help it achieve its goal of multiply its annual volume twentyfold by the end of the decade.

Tomas Ernberg, who heads the company's operations in India, tells AutoBeat Asia that demand will be bolstered in part by upgraded versions of its S60 midsize sedan and XC60 crossover vehicle, which currently account for about 80% of its sales in the country.

Volvo also introduced its entry-level V40 hatchback in India five months ago. The company imports cars to India from production facilities in Europe.

Ernberg says Volvo will expand its dealer network in India from 12 last year to 15 by the end of 2013 and 40 by 2020. Zhejiang Geely Holding Co. acquired the company from Ford Motor Co. in 2010.
