Volkswagen AG has hired Vinay Shahani, formerly marketing director for Nissan Motor Co.'s Nissan brand in North America, to be its vice president of marketing in the same region.
Shahani, 39, fills a vacancy created at VW in February when Timothy Mahoney left to become global marketing officer for General Motors Co.'s Chevrolet brand.
At VW, Shahani's mission will be to revive the company's sales momentum, which has faded in the U.S. this year. That effort will focus next spring on the American debut of VW's seventh-generation Golf small car.
