Passenger vehicle sales in the U.S. now appear likely to set another record in 2017, according to J.D. Power and LMC Automotive.

Previously the two market research firms predicted demand would slowly retreat this year after seven years of continuous growth. But they now Jeff Schuster, who heads forecasting at LMC, says the likelihood of deregulation and fiscal stimulus under the Trump administration will push sales in 2017 to their third consecutive record high.

Schuster adds that this year will be marked by high dealer inventories, even more intense sales incentives and continuing growth in demand for trucks and SUVs.
