American are more tolerant about dangerous driving than they were four years ago, the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety says.
The foundation points out that the growing laxity coincides with last year's 5% rise in U.S. annual traffic fatalities the first increase since 2005.
AAA's poll finds motorists less concerned about those who drive while drunk, drowsy or texting than they were in 2009:
- 69% of respondents consider drunk driving a "serious threat," down from 90% in 2005.
- Only 46% feel the same way about sleepy drivers, down from 71%.
- 81% say e-mailing or texting while driving a serious dangerous compared with 87% four years ago.
