Ford Motor Co. says its October sales of cars and light trucks in the U.S. shrank 12% to 188,800 units, not the 2% decline estimated on Tuesday by market statistics firm Autodata Corp.
Ford’s report was delayed for one day by a fire on Monday at its world headquarters in Dearborn, Mich. The finalized figures mean that last month’s U.S. car market shrank 6%—not the previously estimated 4%—to 1.37 million units.
Autodata also trimmed its calculated annualized sales rate for October to 18.02 million from yesterday’s estimated 18.20 million. Even the lower number is the highest rate for the year to date.
Last year carmakers sold a record 17.47 million light vehicles in the U.S., an achievement analysts say is unlikely to be matched in 2016.
